Today was much better. Nice things that happened today:
1) Takkyubin came on time, and delivered bags safely. My stuff is here now.
2) S, my friend, was able to meet up with me. We ate at a poor-man's udon shop for the first time (only some 400yen per bowl) with free refills of green tea, ice water and toppings of spring onions. I had udon with raw egg (something dama) and soybean cake and tempura. The place looked a little dingy and depressing, but it was alive and there were people coming in and out all the time. This is where the average working class person probably eats; not at one of those fancy fusion restaurants where typical lunch sets run from 1200 yen.
3) S accompanied me to Shibuya to get stuff (random but necessary such as an ironing board) and we had dinner at Macs.. the basement was largely occupied by a group of gyaru, startling with their Hawaii-inspired outfits and range of hair colors (grey, white, ash, blonde etc) and fake tans. I always wondered who would buy the stuff at 109, and these are the girls that keep the shops going.
I love the energy of Shibuya, the neon lights and the people milling around, and the sense that you are alive somehow.
4) K, my housemate from Texas, manages to figure out my wireless connection. YAY!! Something to do with it being a shared, rather than an open connection, and unchecking some IEE authentification thing.
5) Talking to C for 1.3 minutes, before the stupid Skype software disconnects us.. even though I had just upgraded to their version 2.5.
Sleepy now.
