Ganbatte!! to M-chan

M-chan, ganbatte ne! I'm sure you have many people to turn to, but don't hesitate to call/sms me if you need a listening (liberal) ear..

I saw M-chan's blog about her late hours and was shocked to find another 'companion' also suffering from crazy work hours. This week has been quite brutal - I call it brutal because neither M-chan nor I are investment bankers/management consultants/lawyers whose long hours are quite commensurate with their income. I helped out with the Big Event these past few days, spending 15 hours each day at the office and out, with just enough time to get home, suffer a bout of insomnia and then collapse from sheer exhaustion. I can take it for 1 week, but I'm not sure if I can/want to take it for a long time.

Ok, to dispel the craziness of work, some random and slightly more positive things to share.

1. Work has improved a little since my scope of work has widened slightly. I got to meet more new people and one or two whom I think could become pretty good friends. They're not in my department, which makes meeting up a little tricky, but I'll try. The fast-paced nature of the job is more than fine with me.

2. Finally saw some goodlooking males in the course of working. There's a certain Security type, the total alpha male - sculpted cheekbones and nose, tanned, tall, carries off suits well, unsmiling, looks like he could beat someone to a pulp with his fists...sigh. (My preference in guys tends to swing quite a bit). There was this other guy who kept appearing in my vicinity, but since I forgot to check if he was wearing that dreaded Ring (the symbol of untouchability), I didn't pay him too much attention.

3. Damn. I would like a meaningful social life (not clubbing, getting drunk, one-night stand sorta things though). I would like to be able to watch good movies/plays/performances with good friends and my partner and engage in volunteer work. To continue learning languages and reading academic journals to keep my interests alive, to live for the sake of making a positive difference. Not to live for the sake of working.
